How to Work with Distracted Children – 5 Concentration Exercises
For 15 years of my life I have had the same problem every year: Students, students, children distracted in class. I am Renzo Méndez, Bachelor of Education Sciences, Master in Education with a major in Education Management.

It is one of the concentration exercises, which has served me better when I notice the presence of distracted children in class.

“Guys, at the end of the class I’m going to ask about the subject and whoever has the answer will get an extra point for their final exam”.
If you say that phrase before starting with your explanation. trust me! there will be no children distracted in class.
This concentration exercise will motivate students to pay close attention to your class. You have to know that being concentrated means to them many times, a great waste of energy. Therefore, in order to have a good concentration, it is important that there is a factor that motivates them besides food. This type of dynamics in very effective to avoid students, children distracted in class.
This concentration exercise is very similar to the previous one, we have to understand that all human beings act for rewards. In the students it happens the same, children distracted in class do not find a real reason that persuades them to pay attention.
“This topic will be one of the most played for the final exam, 6 questions will come from this class”
“This class is only dictated in this year, it is important that you pay close attention because we will not play it again”
“If everyone is attentive and does not make a fuss, I will be able to give them 5 more minutes of Break / Recreation”
I have been saying these phrases to my students, of course it is vital to fulfill what is promised, and I have managed to have a classroom without distracted children in my class.
3. Students Love the Challenges
That’s right, challenge them and they will try 200% to prove their worth.
“I’ve been told that the students in the group on the side are calmer and more educated than you are” Is that true?
Well let’s check it.
This insurance exercise will ensure the concentration of all your students. There will be no more distracted children in class, everyone will be striving to be the best.
4. Environment without distractions
It may seem obvious, but I still receive questions from teachers who tell me that they have already applied all the concentration exercises for their distracted children in class and even so the kids are still distracted, when I go to check the environment I find a space that makes the 100% concentration of the student. I will give you some tips:
-The slates must be of an appropriate size, neither big nor small.
-Environment with pleasant smell (clean)
5. Assign Tasks
The last concentration exercise, but not the least, is “Assigning tasks”, to avoid distracted children in class. I suggest that you give each student a specific task. For example. Pablo will be in charge of distributing the copies, Susana will pass list, Angel will write down those who make noise, Anthony will collect the notebooks, etc.

I have been applying these techniques throughout my teaching period. I have thus managed to have a classroom without distracted children in my class.
